What Does it Feel Like to Be Empowered? Transforming Your Life and Embracing Your Power

Have you ever felt that fire within you, that undeniable sense that you can conquer anything life throws at you? That’s what it feels like to be truly empowered. Empowerment isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a lifestyle, a mindset, and a transformative force that can change your life in ways you never thought possible.

When you’re empowered, life takes on a new dimension. You’re not just surviving; you’re thriving. Empowerment gives you the confidence to pursue your dreams, the resilience to overcome obstacles, and the courage to stand up for yourself and others. The strength to just keep going and reframe challenges as just the next thing you're figuring out. There is no room for a victim mindset when you're empowered. In fact, the path to empowerment suffocates the victim mindset out of your being. It’s about owning your worth and knowing that you have the strength and capability to shape your destiny.

Research supports the profound impact of empowerment on our lives. A study published in the *Journal of Community Psychology* found that individuals who feel empowered experience higher levels of well-being, greater life satisfaction, and a stronger sense of control over their lives. Empowerment isn’t just a feel-good concept; it’s a psychological powerhouse that can elevate every aspect of your existence.

So, how does life change when you’re empowered? Here’s a glimpse:

1. **Increased Confidence**: You walk into a room with your head held high, knowing you belong and your voice matters. Empowerment crushes self-doubt and fuels self-belief. Because of these things, you're more likely to speak your truth with intention, staying true to yourself by showing up to situations where you can and want to be be truly present for the others there, getting the most out of the moments.

2. **Better Decision-Making**: Empowered individuals make choices that align with their values and goals. They’re not easily swayed by external pressures or opinions.

3. **Resilience**: Life’s challenges become opportunities for growth rather than setbacks. Empowerment equips you with the mental toughness to bounce back stronger.

4. **Improved Relationships**: Empowerment fosters healthy boundaries and mutual respect. You attract and maintain relationships that uplift and support you.

5. **Pursuit of Passions**: When you’re empowered, you’re not afraid to chase your dreams. Whether it’s starting a new career, launching a business, or picking up a new hobby, you go after what sets your soul on fire.

Let me share a bit of my story. I spent years living a life that didn’t feel true to who I was. I did the things I thought I should to "fit in" but a feeling inside was bursting to get out. I actually thought I was meant to be "famous" but I learned it was really a deep need to explore, to know myself, to know my intuition and trust it, to explode from the seams of societal expectations and shed concerns of what others thought of me.

I ran daily to stay thin. This running gave me migraines. That's how badly I wanted to fit in. I married the wrong person because I thought I "should" which was a great gift in the lessons learned and I don't regret it, but it was hard. Very hard. I spent more than I made seeking the authentic confidence I so craved in external things. During this time (see before photos) I was doing everything I thought I "should". Unhappy at my core yet presenting a smile. My mind often wandered to the "good old days" of college or high school, about what could have been. My home had no light, I had no light. I felt stuck in a cycle of inauthenticity, afraid to make changes and unsure of my direction. As you can see in the photos, face looks the same in all of them - smiling yes, yet posed. Then, one day, I decided to blow up my life, fear and the unknown road ahead be damned. I tearfully shared that I wanted a divorce, packed my bags and moved across multiple states, leaving behind everything familiar. A friend of mine told me "you can do anything for a year". Words I clung to like a lifeline for sake of maintaining my courage to do the hard thing that felt inexplicably right.

I tried different roles in my career, explored new opportunities, new hobbies, new countries where I didn't know the language, learned to mountain bike, to rock climb, to renovate a home, start a business and have naturally faced countless challenges. It wasn’t (and isn't always) easy, and there were moments of doubt and fear. But with every step, I got closer to discovering what empowerment truly looks like *for me*.

Now, I’m living a life that feels genuine and fulfilling. I’ve found my voice, my passion, and my purpose. And let me tell you, even when it gets hard, I assure you I’m not stopping because it's worth it. I can see in the before and after photos the LIFE in my face. These photos are imperfectly perfect and they're so full of joy and authenticity. THIS is what empowerment looks like. THIS is what bursting from the seams of societal expectations looks like. This journey has taught me that empowerment is about embracing who you are, taking bold risks, and never settling for less than what you deserve because you think you "should".

Steps to Empower Yourself Empowerment is a journey, not a destination. Here are some actionable steps to get you started on this transformative path:

1. **Set Clear Goals**: Know what you want and why you want it. Clear, specific goals give you direction and purpose.

2. **Educate Yourself**: Knowledge is power. Whether it’s through formal education, reading, or online courses, arm yourself with the information you need to succeed.

3. **Build a Support Network**: Surround yourself with people who believe in you and your potential. A strong support system can provide encouragement, advice, accountability and reminders that you are strong as f*** when you begin to doubt it.

4. **Practice Self-Care**: Taking care of your physical, emotional, and mental health is crucial. Exercise, meditate, get enough sleep, and nourish your body with healthy foods. These things lead to chemical changes in the body and also lead to feeling more positive about how you show up in the world. For me this is not about looking perfect as it once did, but having confidence and energy to show up authentically me, makeup free and wearing whatever the heck I want.

5. **Take Risks**: Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Taking calculated risks can lead to tremendous personal growth and new opportunities. BET on yourself and trust those tugs in your gut.

6. **Celebrate Small Wins**: Every step forward is progress. Celebrate your achievements, no matter how small, and use them as motivation to keep going.

7. **Develop a Growth Mindset**: Embrace challenges and view failures as learning experiences. A growth mindset fosters resilience and continuous self expansion.

Research Backing Empowerment Strategies Numerous studies highlight the effectiveness of these empowerment strategies. For instance, a study in the *Journal of Applied Psychology* found that setting specific, challenging goals led to higher performance and personal satisfaction. Another research published in *Psychological Science* emphasized the importance of a growth mindset in overcoming obstacles and achieving success. Additionally, a review in the *American Journal of Health Promotion* highlighted the significant benefits of physical activity and self-care practices on overall well-being and empowerment. These findings reinforce the idea that taking proactive steps to empower yourself can lead to a more fulfilling and enriched life.

Empowerment is more than a feeling; it’s a way of life that can transform every facet of your being. By taking deliberate, intentional actions to empower yourself, whether it be showing up for therapy, starting to paint, leaving a relationship you just know in your gut isn't for you even if it is fine and the person is great... you unlock a world of possibilities and step into the best version of yourself.

Remember, you have the power to shape your destiny—embrace it, own it, and let it drive you toward greatness and great joy. Ready to start your empowerment journey? Take that first step today, and watch your life change in ways you never imagined.

I believe in you,

Kate
